Garage Fire Destroys Home in Rochester, NH
ROCHESTER, NH - A significant fire broke out at 168 Eagle Drive on Monday, September 9, 2024, destroying a garage and severely damaging a double-wide mobile home. The Rochester Fire Department responded quickly after receiving multiple calls reporting a garage fire with an explosion around 10:23 AM.

Upon arrival, fire crews, led by Car-2, identified a large column of smoke visible from Salmon Falls Road. The garage was already fully engulfed in flames, and the fire had spread into the living area of the attached home. Two propane tanks located behind the structure were also at risk due to the intense heat, as the flames caused siding on a nearby home to melt. Fortunately, all occupants of the home had evacuated safely, and no injuries were reported.

Engine-2, Engine-4, and Truck-6 were among the first units to respond. Engine-2 initiated an aggressive attack by stretching a hose line to the garage, while Engine-4 and Truck-6 entered the home with tools and hoses to contain the fire and protect the propane tanks. Rochester was supported by crews from Somersworth Fire, Dover Fire, and off-duty Rochester firefighters. The fire was declared under control by 10:58 AM, and extensive overhaul was completed by 12:28 PM.

The fire resulted in a total loss of the garage, with the home suffering extensive smoke, fire, heat, and water damage. Two vehicles were also destroyed, one inside the garage and another parked in front of it. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, originating in the rear of the garage near the doorway.

Rochester Police, Frisbie Paramedics, and additional fire crews from Somersworth, Dover, Farmington, Milton, and Berwick provided assistance and coverage during the incident. The residents are currently displaced as the property is assessed.
